About the event

This session will provide an opportunity to see one of the oldest items in the local studies collection of Newport Central Library, the bible belonging to the Etheridge family of Guiting Power, Gloucestershire and Newport. It was printed in the early years of the 17th century, and was looked after and signed by the senior member of the family in each generation: the last inscription was in 1798.


Who was able to write at the time, the style and quality of their writing, and the implements they used will all be discussed, and there will be a chance for those attending to sign their own names using a quill pen.
